Jared Sorin to lead “Startup Legal 101” on April 5 at the LaunchPad

Jared Sorin, Partner at Brown Rudnick LLP and Co-Leader of the firm’s Emerging Growth and Venture Capital Practice Group, will host a workshop “Startup Legal 101” for members of the Syracuse University Blackstone LaunchPad on Tuesday, April 5 at 5 p.m. The conversation will cover topics of importance to all ventures and startup founding teams, including picking the right legal entity, founder equity and vesting, equitizing employees, and consultants, protecting your idea and how to raise money. 

The virtual event will be held in the LaunchPad, first floor of Bird Library.  It is open to all Syracuse University faculty, staff, students, and alumni.  Those wishing to also attend virtually should RSVP to LaunchPad@syr.edu for the event link.

Sorin represents startup, early stage and emerging growth companies as well as the investors who support them. He advises entrepreneurial clients on a broad range of technology-driven industries regarding general corporate, finance, and transactional matters, including choice of business entity, debt and equity financing transactions, securities law compliance, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, business formation, strategic alliances.

His investor clients include angel investors, family offices, venture capital funds, and other private equity firms regarding their investments in early stage and emerging growth companies.

He frequently speaks on topics of interest to the entrepreneurial community. He serves as a mentor and advisor for various accelerator, incubator, and entrepreneurial networking groups, including the NYU Startup School, the NYU Summer Launchpad Accelerator Program, the Canadian Tech Accelerator, Young Jewish Professionals, the Jersey Shore Tech Meeting, and the Rutgers Preparatory School Business and Entrepreneurship Program.

In addition, in 2016, he co-founded entreprenYOURS, Inc., an accelerator program for idea-stage startup companies in New York and New Jersey, characterized by a unique system of cross-equity ownership designed to foster collaboration and community among the accelerator’s portfolio companies.

He also helped to co-found a venture capital fund focused on investing in early-stage and emerging growth companies in New Jersey and the surrounding region that have demonstrated early traction in consumer-facing technologies and Internet-of-Things (IoT) verticals, among other tech and tech-enabled industry sectors.

Sorin is a scuba diving enthusiast who has twice dived with sharks. He also has represented clients who have appeared on Shark Tank.
