The Syracuse University Innovation Law Center + New York State Science & Technology Law Center (NYS STLC) is partnering again with the Blackstone LaunchPad powered by Techstars at Syracuse University Libraries to hold office hours for innovators and inventors this academic year.

Law students will lend their technical expertise to SU innovators working to commercialize their ideas, at bi-weekly office hours in the LaunchPad, located on the first floor of Bird Library.

Faculty, students and alumni can receive assistance with patent search strategies through library and public databases, as well as newly acquired tools such as IP.com.  Additionally, they can explore how to protect ideas or creative works by understanding the basics of patents, trademarks and copyrights.  These step are often important in seeking funding and other partnerships.

From market landscapes to intellectual property protection, to licensing options and potential funding sources, the SU Innovation Law Center + NYS STLC helps companies turn their technology into a commercial reality.  While the SU Innovation Law Center + The NYS STLC does not file for or prosecute patents, and does not provide legal advice or opinions, the LaunchPad can refer inventors and entrepreneurs to IP law firms to implement patent, trademark, copyright filings, licensing agreements and other legal work.

The NYS STLC, part of the SU Innovation Law Center, grew out of the former SU  Technology Commercialization Law Program, which was the first in the nation to combine scholarly legal analysis and a guided, hands-on law curriculum with the active development of new technologies, intellectual property (IP), and start-up companies. The Innovation Law Center oversees the NYS STLC, and offers students the opportunity to assist with emerging technologies via a course called the Innovation Law Practicum.

Office hours will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the LaunchPad on these days:
