Continuing with tradition, this year’s ‘Cuse Market will host for the launch of yet another student venture. Founded by one of our own Blackstone LaunchPad Global Media Fellows, David Fox ’19, his company Necessity Apparel is a new, chic apparel brand that donates 10% of net profits to charity: water. Come to the venture’s launch party, from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 20 at the Blackstone LaunchPad in Bird Library. The event will mark the launch of the full website at necessityapp.com and will showcase apparel line extensions that have been heavily requested since the launch of the pre-order.
Necessity Apparel was founded spring semester 2018, competed in the recent iPrize business plan competition, and already has traction. It has launched a pre-order site.
David founded Necessity Apparel after capitalizing on his keen interest in the non-profit sector of business, but quickly understood that his model needed to be a for-profit in order to create the biggest impact. Through research and development, David discovered the opportunity in the apparel industry and efficiently moved to design and create beautiful and unique apparel items. His emphasis on making water the central theme behind collections inspired the original designs, created in part with Victoria Lawson, another Blackstone LaunchPad Global Media Fellow and founder of Weird and Woke Designs. Together, David and Victoria developed the pre-order line of Necessity Apparel, a collection of 3 shirts that bode their unique water-brush design. You can see this collection on their site now, but expect some new surprises on launch day!
The 2018 ‘Cuse Market will be the third annual undertaking of this event that helps to promote and support our student entrepreneurs around campus.
The event will be hosted from 2-4 p.m. in Bird Library, and the Necessity Apparel launch will be held at 2:30 p.m., with plenty of games, giveaways, food and fresh apparel.
