We are excited to join in announcing the publication of The Student Startup Guide. The book will be released on April 11 as part of the Blackstone LaunchPad Annual Conference & Pitch Competition at Startup Grind in San Francisco. Written by Courtney Gras Gerowitz, Startup Community Lead at Amazon Web Services and former director of Ecosystem Development at Techstars, the book features Syracuse LaunchPad alumni Josh Aviv ’15 G’17 founder of SparkCharge, Kelsey Davis ’19 G’20, founder of CLLCTVE, Sam Hollander ’21, founder of Perk Rewards and Matt Shumer ’23, founder of OthersideAI.
Courtney Gerowitz, Kelsey Davis and Syracuse LaunchPad Director Linda Dickerson Hartsock will all be featured speakers at the event.
The book is being added to the Blackstone innovation and entrepreneurship collection at Bird Library. It focuses on founding stories and tips written by student founders across the globe. It talks about how to manage your time, how to raise capital, how to hire your first employees, and much more – directly from the perspective of successful student startups that have launched out of places like the LaunchPad network.
This book will answer questions like:
- How do I balance classes, work, social life, and my startup without going crazy?
- How do I work with my university tech transfer office?
- Should I drop out of school if my company is taking off?
- How do I find free (or cheap) legal services?
- How do I prototype my product on campus?
- What are the best ways for students to raise money for their companies?
The book is officially live on Amazon as well as the website (www.students-start.com) where students can join the online community. The online community will be hosted in Slack and is designed to be a space for student founders to connect and network. For now, the community is only be open to student founders (current or previous).
